Student Governance and Development

Background:

The International Law Students Association (ILSA) is a non-profitable organisation of students and lawyers who are dedicated to the promotion of international law. ILSA provides students with opportunities to study, research and network in the international legal arena.

ILSA NMMU Chapter falls under the ILSA umbrella body. Our focus is on developing a mooting culture at NMMU, focusing specifically on international law. Through ILSA students will have access to exciting opportunities in the area of international law.

Mission and Vision:

Being a successful legal practitioner does not soley depend on academic ability, but also on practical application and social skill. We, as ILSA, aim to provide students with such skills, which enable them to be well equipped after graduation.

We host various activities and are involved in many workshops throughout the year which are aimed at streamlining oral advocacy, written advocacy and research skills. We also host social events and community outreach programmes which are aimed at letting our members engage socially outside the lecture halls, and show that we care about the community in which we live.

Our aim is to develop essential skills to help all law students both during the course of their degree and  in their future legal careers.

As part of our mission for next year (2017), we are looking at expanding ILSA beyond the borders of NMMU, by engaging with other ILSA chapters at other institutions and collaborating to host a workshop and mooting competition.
