The Economics in Action Society’s vision is to be recognised as one of the top performing societies at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). Our aim is to make a positive impact by enhancing the development and the betterment of our members. We strive to aid individual growth in an increasingly competitive environment and to nurture the knowledge obtained, beyond the classroom.

We are dedicated to being an engaged society and to facilitate the accessibility of relevant information to members. The society strives to create a platform for members to broaden their capabilities through various channels by attempting to bridge the gap between what students learn in the classroom and the real world.

Through events such as the Annual Budget Speech Review analysis, the society aims is to familiarise students with real world applications of some of the policies they learn about in lectures. Backed by the NMMU Economics Department, we bring expert speakers to share information and insights in various subjects in the field of economics. We act as a vehicle that delivers information regarding available opportunities for prospective graduates. The Economics In Action society takes pride in events such as the employability workshop as well as the First Year Students’ Debate. The society is not only committed to the development of its members but also commits itself in making a positive impact in the disadvantaged surroundings of the Nelson Mandela Metro. As a requirement for a society to exist at the NMMU, the EIA society also partakes in community outreach programmes such as our mentorship programme in which the society members act as mentors to High School students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
