Our Background

The Green Campus Initiative (GCI) Nelson Mandela University chapter was officially launched through a green gala dinner in April 2011 by a delegation of residence student leaders, residence managers and progressive staff from various Nelson Mandela University departments. This proved to be a significant event that cemented itself as an establishment that was to make Nelson Mandela University one of the leading universities on Environmental Sustainability in the Southern African region where residence also signed the Green Pledge which was a solemn promise to do better for our environment.

About Us

The Nelson Mandela University GCI Society is an extensional arm of the African Green Campus Initiative which was formed by the Acuho-I-Sac with the intent of creating a thriving and ethical society that values the ecosystem and sustainability of our natural resources. It is for this reason that you would find us doing community outreaches and advancing for climate justice and saving our world from itself.

Our Work

Our work is on voluntary basis that seek  to educate students and staff about greening issues through various awareness campaigns, programmes, and projects centred around water recycling, environmental care, energy saving, reducing water consumption and the carbon footprint.
